Constipation Symptoms, Causes, and Diagnosis

Diet plays a big part in your bowel movement. For some people, not being able to go to the toilet everyday isn’t so alarming. You have to realize that constipation is a sign of a toxic colon. In fact, those who suffer from this dilemma are more likely to contract colon cancer in the long run. This is a scary truth, and it’s one that’s backed by statistics.

Colon constipation is a serious health problem. It needs to be addressed immediately if you’re serious about your wellbeing. Just ask any doctor because they’ll tell you that you need to have bowel movement at least twice a day, if not more. The waste you accumulate in your body gather bacteria when it’s not expelled immediately.

Of course, there are ways to address this problem immediately. You can always get an over the counter medicine to induce diarrhea. However, this merely provides a temporary reprieve. Colon health is all about having the right kind of diet.

Causes

So, what exactly causes colon constipation? To understand this, it helps to be aware of how the colon, or what is otherwise known as the large intestines, works. As food goes down to the stomach, it absorbs water. Waste builds up as it reaches your rectum. This normally takes about 12 hours. And by the time the wastes reach the end of its journey, the byproducts become more solid because water has already been soaked into the bloodstream. The longer the stool stays inside, the harder and dirtier it becomes, thus, making it even more difficult to expel.

There are several causes for a sluggish colon. Constipation is sometimes caused by stress and illness. However, its main perpetrator is diet. Foods that are high in fiber often act as cleaners so that your body is able to excrete the wastes immediately. And as you all know, fiber is found abundantly in fruits and vegetables. Meat eaters and those addicted to processed goods don’t have enough fiber in their system. As a result, they end up feeling weak and bloated. In fact, many suffer from symptoms so extreme that it gets in the way of their life.

Cure

As mentioned earlier, the best way to address a sluggish colon is to make changes in your diet. Say goodbye to colon constipation by making sure you include a good portion of veggies and fruits in your meals. Choose foods that are high in fiber, calcium, and antioxidants. It also helps to include exercise in your weekly routine.

These changes may be subtle but they do wonders in abating problems related to colon constipation. You can simply look through cookbooks to get ideas for recipes that aren’t just healthy, but tasty as well. After all, isn’t it time to appreciate things that can help improve your health?
